Buying a gemstone should feel like a conversation, not an exam. These six short guides cover everything customers ask us — weights, papers, treatments, the crafts, and care. Still unsure? The house is one WhatsApp away.

Ratti & Carat — how gemstones are weighed

Jyotish stones are traditionally weighed in ratti: 1 ratti ≈ 0.91 carat (the jeweller’s ratti used in Jaipur). Your astrologer will usually prescribe a ratti weight; we convert and match it to certified stones. A “5.25 ratti Pukhraj” is roughly a 4.8 carat yellow sapphire.

Certificates — what the papers actually mean

Every jyotish stone we sell ships with a recognised lab certificate stating identity (natural vs synthetic), weight, and treatment. Keep the certificate with the stone — it holds resale value. We include certification; it is never an add-on.

Treatments — heated, oiled, or untreated

Most sapphires are heat-treated (accepted in the trade); emeralds are commonly oiled. Untreated (“no-heat”, “no-oil”) stones command a premium. For jyotish purposes many practitioners prefer untreated stones — tell us and we source accordingly. The certificate always states the treatment.

Kundan · Polki · Meenakari — the three arts

Kundan: stones set in refined gold foil — the royal Jaipur setting. Polki: uncut, unfaceted diamonds in their raw brilliance. Meenakari: hand-fired enamel on the reverse — the hidden art you wear against your skin.

Caring for your jewellery

Keep pieces in their pouch, away from perfume, hairspray and water. Wipe gently with the dry cloth included. Store silver with a silica sachet to slow tarnish; a gentle silver-cloth polish restores shine. Never use liquid dips on set stones.
